A new Global Methodist congregation
After Wheatland Salem UMC in Naperville determined that, despite a vote to disaffiliate, the congregation could not afford the costs involved, many of the congregational leaders determined that God was calling them to be done with the UMC’s denominational conflict and, instead, start something new.
Space was available for them to begin meeting each Sunday in a neighboring Baptist church about a mile away. Their “interim leader”, Norm Strom, a recently retired executive who also had been a local pastor candidate in the UMC, was appointed by Global Methodist Bishop Mark Webb to serve as the pastor of Living Faith Church on an interim basis as the congregation began planning its future. Norm, along with nearly 90 others, will be ordained at the Great Lakes Convening Conference, October 27-28, in Washington, Illinois (adjacent to Peoria).
